Biographie

Tjunkaya a grandi à Ernabella Mission où elle est allée à l’école. Plus tard, elle a appris et démontré à ses pairs diverses compétences domestiques, y compris la couture, la cuisine et le ménage, en utilisant du matériel et des méthodes européennes. Tjunkaya a également travaillé dans le centre d’art et est devenu l’une de ses artistes les plus renommée sur batik. Elle excelle également dans la céramique, l’impression et la peinture. Son travail a été vu dans de nombreuses expositions en Australie et à l’étranger depuis.
En1971, les femmes d’Ernabella ont commencé à apprendre le batik. En 1974, Ernabella Arts a envoyé Tjunkaya à Yogyakarta avec plusieurs autres femmes Pitjantjatjara pour en savoir plus sur la fabrication du batik par des artistes indonésiens.
Elle a eu trois enfants, dont un est décédé en 2005 et était aussi un artiste exceptionnel.
